How Restylane® Works: The science behind Restylane®

Restylane® and Perlane® are approved for treating moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). Because Perlane is composed of larger gel particles, it is intended for deeper use than Restylane to volumize skin for structural support and lift. Your physician can best determine which treatment is right for you.

Restylane® and Perlane® are Different from Botox® Cosmetic.

Restylane® and Perlane® are cosmetic fillers injected into the skin to smooth facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). In contrast, Botox® Cosmetic is a drug that blocks nerve transmission and relaxes the muscles that cause frown lines between your eyebrows.

Restylane® and Perlane® are Different from Animal-Based Hyaluronic Acids and Bovine Collagen Products.

Restylane® and Perlane® contain no animal proteins. This limits any risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reactions. Restylane and Perlane do not require an allergy test and can be administered immediately, so there is no waiting for treatments. Restylane and Perlane contain trace amounts of gram-positive bacterial proteins and are contraindicated for patients with a history of allergies to such material.
